  • Hi my name is Annika and I am from Calgary, Alberta. I am age 24. 2 years ago I finished college. As a little girl I always dreams of getting a job as a government. So I then decided to follow my dreams.
  • As of last year I decided to take this opportunity to become a mayor of the City of Calgary. So today I will be telling you the steps to get elected.
  • First of all you need to be a Canadian citizen who is over the age of 18. You would also need to live in a municipal area in which you are running for at least 6 months before the election.
  • You would then need to be nominated. This means you need to complete official papers, giving information about yourself and the names of the people who nominate you. You may have to pay a fee when you take your nomination papers to the municipal offices. And your name will be put on the ballot.
  • You then need to let the community know what your ideas are. A group of supporters are called a campaign committee may help you do this. They make leaflets and signs about you and put them out into the community. You also go door to door talking to people about your ideas. You also take part in debates in the community where all the candidates get together to discuss important issues.
  • Last but not least people will then go to the polling station to vote for the candidate they wish for. Which ever candidate gets the most votes wins.
