- In a near-future New York City, where an alert service notifies people on their end day. Eighteen year old Mateo Torrez and Rufus Emeterio meet using the last friend app where they are faced with living a lifetime in 24 hours of less
- THEY BOTH DIE AT THE ENDBY: ADAM SILVERA
- What people most fear is getting a call from the death cast telling them they're time is up and this is their 24 final hours. Mateo and Rufus unfortunately get a call too soon and Mateo has to learn to come out of his comfort zone while Rufus has to learn to enjoy the little things in life. Person vs self.
- The Pluto's. Rufus' parents and sister died when he was young. He went to an orphanage where he met a group of people and they became friends and they got nicknamed the Pluto's because they don’t fit in. This is where Rufus has his goodbyes with his friends.
- After both Mateo and Rufus get the call they both decide to sign up from the last friend app, it’s an app for people on their final day to meet up with. Mateo has no luck at first finding a good last friend but then ends up finding Rufus.

- After Mateo and Rufus chat on the last friend. Mateo tells Rufus to meet at his apartment. When he arrives Mateo starts packing and having a lot of doubts to leave his apartment because it is his safe place. He also doesn’t think Rufus is who he says he is but eventually let’s Rufus into his apartment and he calms down.
- What if he is not who he says he is? What if he is some random hippy at my door?!
- Towards the end of They Both Die At The End, Mateo and Rufus set out on final adventures together to live their end day to the very end together.
