It’s midnight, and the narrator is reading when he falls asleep. Knocking wakes him up and he tells himself it’s just a visitor.
There was a black bird that made the man smile because he was not afraid of it, he asked the Raven it’s name and it said “Nevermore”. The man tries to talk to the Raven and the only thing the Raven will say is “Nevermore”.
He thinks by the bird saying “Nevermore” he thinks he is saying no. The bird just stays there looking at him. The man says that his soul will never be lifted, meaning that he will never be happy again.
