Mohandas Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 in Porbandar, India. Gandhi was born into privilege because his father was a diwan. He had six siblings, three sisters and three brothers. He was only thiteen when he married his first and only wife.
Gandhi moved to South Africa for a lawyer job working for his brothers friend. Gandhi was travelling to his job using public transportation. He was riding the train one day and he was kicked off so that a white South African could get a ride. South Africa was one of the most racist country's during this time. This is what ispired Gandhi.
I have a dream...
Ways that Gandhi protested apartheid was by marches, fasting, and burning British milled clothes. One of Gandhi's marches was called The Salt March. This was a protest where Indians marched miles to protest unfair taxes on salt. Fasting is a period of not eating that Gandhi did multiple times. Gandhi urged Indians to burn British milled clothes even though they were well made.
Sadly, Gandhi has passed away. Gandhi was murdered by Hindu extremist Naturam Godse. He was assassinated in New Delhi, India by gunshot from a pistol.
Gandhi has inspired many activist to fight against unequal rights in many country's. Gandhi inspired Martin Luther King Jr. to fight against segregation in America. Nelson Mandela to fight against apartheid in South Africa with the ANC. Gandhi also has many meaningful quotes that have also inspired many. Overall, Gandhi was an amazing man and a natural born leader.
