Here I am. A simple droplet of water. In this whole gray, colorless world above the clouds, I stand as a bright droplet of water. About to be crowned king of Cloudonia. Many people don't know that I do not want to be king. I want to be an explorer for Cloudonia. I want to travel to faraway lands and collect precious items, not spend my life cooped up in the Cumulus Cloud Castle. I long for adventure, for breathtaking sights, for survival and spy missions, not to just sit here and go to droplet parties and droplet court trials. I heard the beautiful world below the clouds is full of bright colors and vivid scenery, not just gray and white.
An Adventure Around the World... A Comic Strip by Trisha Rastogi
All of a sudden, I have a sinking feeling in my stomach. I slowly realize that I am falling. "Why is this happening to me?" I ask myself. I start to feel chills up my spine. It was freezing! I slowly started to freeze over, I felt stiff and unable to breath. I feel very heavy. I descended for a long time, scared. I didn't ask for this to happen to me! It saved me from my coronation, though, but I was still worried? What would become of me?
I wake up, realizing that I fell asleep just a minute ago. How much time had passed? Just as I finish regaining consciousness, I hit solid, hard ice. "OW!" I moan. Suddenly, I hear a low grumbling below me. I jump up, startled. "Relax," the voice says. "What happened," I ask. "You fell as precipitation from the clouds," said the voice. That's when you fall from the clouds as liquid water, or frozen water, if its cold. You are now on a glacier. My name's Glacio." "You mean," I said, that I am on an adventure? Away from the clouds?" "Yes," Glacio said, matter-of-factly. I smiled happily. My lifelong dream had come true! So, there I stayed for some time. I started to become apart of Glacio by staying as frozen ice inside him. We slowly became friends. But my happiness would not last for very long.
Where am I? What am I doing here?
I notice Glacio growing weaker and weaker, until one day, when I wake up, he has disappeared! I immediately freak out. I had just gotten used to living away from the clouds, and now I was lost again! As I slowly recover from my drowsiness I realize, that the world is not gray and white anymore. It is full of vivid, beautiful color. I instantly smile. Goodbye, drab gray world! Colorful worlds are the truly happy ones. I scan my surroundings, realizing I am in a muddy, dirty area. I slowly look at my body, realizing that I am water again! As I begin plotting my way out of this weird maze, a brown furry body approaches me. "Oh No!" I say. Please do not drink me, o magnanimous one!" I plead.
"Why would I drink you? I am a mole, Mr. M, you can call me. You are under the ground. You are now in the form of groundwater, which is water held underground in the soil, or in aquifers. You must have seeped through the porous glacier and soaked into the soil. You might seep from the ground into the lake, next."
Very soon, I feel myself seeping through the ground again. I open my eyes, and I am in a lake. All alone! "When did my life go so wrong?" I wonder. The vibrant colors of the lake and its surroundings don't cheer me up. I know I got the adventure I wanted, but if it meant never seeing my family again, I would give that up. I frantically try to swim to shore, but the lake holds me back. I slowly grow heaver and feel myself sinking. "NOOOOOO!" I yell. "Help!" I hit a muddy surface and groan. I slowly feel myself growing a seeping through the ground, the soil absorbing me. Would I become groundwater again? At least I would see Mr. M.
"Noooooooo! Help meeee!"
I felt myself sinking into the ground until I hit soft mud. "Wow," I heard a voice say, "You're already back!" "Not funny," I say. I had gone from being a near - king to nature's puppet! I just missed home! "Miss your family, huh," Mr. M asks. "Yeah," I say. I despise this place." "You just seeped through the ground again. Gravity pulled you down into the ground until you became apart of the soil." You are still groundwater. You reside in some of the finest tunnels in the world. You must have seeped through a small crack in the ground below the lake. That's where we get most of our water from." I grimace, suddenly feel lighter, and dizzier. "You're going to seep into the lake again," Mr. M said, laughing. "Yeah, I got that," I said. I would not tamper with nature, I would just let it do what it felt like. "Until we meet again," Mr. M whispered. "Bye for now."
