June and Day escape while Day's brother, John, stays back to act as Day, therefore risking his life to save Day.
"They were lurking near the back exits. Just like we agreed. The Patriots came for us. I want to tell them to wait for John, but I know it's no use. They grab us and lead us toward their motorcycles. I take the gun out from my belt and fling it to the ground. I can't have its tracker follow me now. Day goes on one motorcycle- I go on another. Wait for John, I want to say. But then we're off. Batalla Hall moves away from us" (Lu 294).
"You threw everything away. Your entire life-your beliefs . . . Why would you to that for me?" (Lu 299).
June and Day escape to the roof where Day learns that John was executed in his place. Day doesn't accept his brother's fate at first, but June and Day both realize that everything has ended and there's nothing they can do.
"Because you were right, about all of it" (Lu 299).
