Battle at Marathon
The Battle at Marathon, one of the major battles of the Persian war, was about 20,000 Persians fighting against 10,000 Greeks.
The Persians fled after being unable to defeat the Greeks disciplined phalanx. They lost about 6000 men compared to 200.
While the Persians were preparing to sail back to Persia, the Greeks did a surprise attack on them while they weren't prepared.
At Thermopylaes, the Spartans held back the persians for 3 days while the Greeks worked on ways to defeat the Persians.
The Greeks decided to attack the Persians from behind as their way to defeat them in surprise.
