Storyboard Description

Bathtub Problem

Storyboard Text

  • If I filled up the bathtub, how long will it take to drain?
  • Let's do the math!
  • Then my equation would be  y= -3/20x+17
  • Your x-intercept would be the time since you drained it, and your y-intercept would be the gallons of water left.
  • So if after 20 seconds my bath drained 3 gallons, how any gallons would it be left after 20 or 50 seconds?
  • It's easy! All you have to do is replace your x with the number of seconds you want to find. For example... y= -3/20(20)+17
  • You will have to get your x-intercept by itself. Use the same problem, but subtract, multiply, and divide what is around it.
  • It's almost gone! So if there are 7 gallons left left in the tub, how do I know how long it has been draining?
  • What a day!
