  • Maya  Angelou's grandfather left her grandmother with 2 children and went Oklahoma to study religion, and have a new wife. 
  • Here she is practicing  cooking for a cotton gin and a lumberer mill. 
  •  She had to do  something to take care of her and her " precious babes ".  So, she started cooking for a cotton gin and a lumberer mill. 
  • The workers rushing out of work to get the good smelling food.
  • When she knew the workers were dependent on her she built a stall between between the  cotton gin and the lumber mill. When it was lunch the workers would run over to her stall.
  • In her store she sold cheese, meal, syrup, cookies, candy, writing tablets, pickles  canned goods, fresh fruit, soft drinks, coal, oil, and leather soles for worn out shoes.
