Storyboard Text

  • A knight with armor and skin as green as grass rides into King Arthurś kingdom on a green steed. He has a challenge for Arthur and his men.
  • I will take you up on your offer because I am the king, and my kingdom will have honor!
  • I will allow you one hack at my neck, but if I survive, I will be allowed to do the same to you in a year and a day.
  • Sir Gawain steps up and does the challenge in Arthur's place. He chops the green knight's head off, but the knight survives and picks up his own head. He puts it back on and starts talking.
  • I'll see you then.
  • I have survived. One year from now, you will seek me and I will get my hack. If you chicken out, your honor will be lost!
  • Sir Gawain! Please stay here with me and wife for three days. Each day, I will go hunting, and I will give you my winnings, but you must do the same for me!
  • When winter was just around the corner, Sir Gawain set off to find the Green Knight. He came upon a castle and its lord.
  • Thank you, kind sir. I shall do as you ask.
  • Each day, the lord's wife gives Gawain kisses, so Gawain returns them to the king, but on the third day, the wife gave Gawain a green girdle that would protect him from harm. He didn't return this.
  • Thank you, Sir Gawain for staying with us and doing as I asked you. I will surely show you where the green chapel is.
  • Thank you for the hospitality. I believe that I'm now ready to face my doom.
  • Thank you Green Knight! Thank you!
  • I have shown you mercy for you have been honorable in all you ways, except for the green girdle. You didn't return that to me, so I nicked your neck.
  • The Green Knight takes his first hack, but Gawain flinches. His second attempt ends in a whiff, but on the third go, the ax glances Gawain's cheek.
  • You've taught me  a lot, Sir. I shall always be indebted to you. It was nice to have met you! Goodbye.
  • Sir Gawain set off to go back to Camelot and Arthur's round table, but before he did, the Green Knight gave him another green girdle with gold on it.
  • For your honor and dignity, I give you this girdle. Goodbye Sir Gawain. It's been real.
