Macbeth and Banquo meet the witches who prophesize that Macbeth will become the Thane of Cawdor and King of Scotland and Banquo's sons will become King.
Lady Macbeth and Macbeth come up with a plan to kill King Duncan and take over the throne. Macbeth will kill Duncan while he sleeps and Lady Macbeth will get the guards drunk - they will set up the guards.
Macbeth finally ends up killing King Duncan. Afterwards he is remorseful and he refuses to go back to the scene of crime so Lady Macbeth places the dagger and smears blood on the guards. Macduff finds the King dead and Malcolm and Donalbain ( Duncan's sons) flee to England and Ireland because they are scared of being next.
When Malcolm (Duncan's oldest son) flees to England, Macbeth is crowned King. People from the town suspect Malcolm and Donalbain hired the guards to murder their father.
Macbeth starts fearing Banquo (his bestfriend) because of what he knows and of what the witches had said of his sons becoming king. He orders and convinces three murderers to kill Banquo and his son Fleance. Macbeth doesn't kill Banquo himself because as King he needs to look innocent. Banquo is murdered but Fleance escapes.
Macbeth and Lady Macbeth have a royal banquet in which Macbeth hallucinates seeing Banquo's ghost. All of the people notice when he goes crazy. Lady Macbeth tells everyone this is normal and that it will be over soon. Afterwards Lady Macbeth makes everyone leave and Macbeth reveals he is paranoid about Macduff's absence and considers going to the witches to know what is the worst of what will happen
