after his father Darius i, died. the next Persian king, Xerxes, swore to take revenge on all of ancient Greece especially the Athens. he spent 10 years raising a massive army to destroy Greece. the first major battle of this portion of war is the battle of Thermopylae. in the battle of Thermopylae, king Leonidas, had a group of just 300 Spartans warriors that were able to fight back, but the Persians still won the battle of Thermpylae.
