The main event in Genesis 11 was that everyone at first spoke the same language which caused them to comunicate leading to negative acts, God changed their languages and felt they needed to be scattered. The first thing that happened was the world migrated east to settle in a valley in the land of Shina. Once they got there, they built a tower to reach heaven. Next, God gave them different languages and scattered them across the world. Finally, everyone got to live hundreds of years old and had many daughters and sons although it was notwhat they had planned. A life lesson we can learn from the passage is that pride is a flaw in mankind that can separate us as people. The separation of people is not because of language but symbolized by it. We shouldn’t build up walls and shut others out, but we should build bridges and unite so we can try and do good in the world.
"Come, let us go down and there confuse their language, so that no one will understand the speech of another" (Gn 11:7).
"So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth" (Gn 11:8a).
"Shem lived five hundred years" (Gn 11:11a). "Eber lived four hundred and thirty years" (Gn 11:17a).
