Rome is on the Italian peninsula near the ocean. It is located on an old city that was inhabited by a Latin tribe. It also sits on seven hills.
Etruscan influence of Sports on the Romans
The myth of Romulus and Remus says that they were two twin brothers that were born when Rome was still Latin. They were stolen in the night and were took to a river to be drowned but the basket they were in stayed afloat. They were raised by wolves until a shepherd found them and took them in. They grew up to be kings and were going to build a new city but Romulus and Remus got into a fight over the name of the new city. Romulus won the fight and killed Remus so the city was named Rome.
Greek Influence of Architecture on the Roman Civilization
The Etruscans gave the Romans the arch and the cuniculus. The Romans only improved on these two inventions and made them on bigger scales.
Greek influence of writing, art, and religion on the Romans
Slave fighting was used as entertainment for the Romans and it was taken by the Etruscans but they would have the slaves fight at funerals instead of in arenas. Also in the Etruscan custom of slave fighting the winner would be congratulated then executed. The Romans also did chariot races just like the Etruscans.
The Romans used many of Greek architectural styles but also added upon them and took ideas from other cultures as well. One of these styles that they used was columns and were built on the Pantheon in Rome. The Romans could build bigger structures than the Greeks because of better technology and they built giant things like the Circus Maximus Colosseum.
Roman writing is not original, the Etruscans used some of the Greek alphabet and the Romans used some of the Etruscan alphabet. Roman art is heavily influenced by Greek art, they made pottery that was similar to Greek pottery and many rich Romans admired Greek art. Roman religion was influenced by many cultures as well, some rituals that were done by the Etruscans the Romans would use but the Roman gods were direct copies of Greek gods but with Roman names.
