The next day after Mr. Auld yelled at his wife I went to Mrs. Auld and she didn’t seem happy and had a really serious face. Then when I went towards her she snapped and yelled at me,”Go move those logs to the other side of the yard and move fast we ain’t got all day.”I was so confused what was happening, this was the first time that she ever talked to me in a forceful or imposing voice. Also it was the first time since I’ve moved there that she wasn’t happy to see me or at least first time I've ever seen her without a smile on her face. I thought that what Mr. Auld said might of made her mad but I didn’t think it was that big of a deal because everybody has bad days.
Day in and day out I started to notice that Mrs. Auld wasn’t getting any better from when she yelled at me. The crazy thing was that she was actually getting worse and worse over time. For the first time I saw her hit a slave. The scariest part is that she didn’t feel bad for the slave, but she had smirk on her face when she inflicted the pain into the slaves back. She started to hit slaves everyday more and more each day and was getting amusement out of it. After a few days it got so bad to the point where Mr. Auld had to come in and tell Mrs. Auld to chill out and stop hitting the slaves for no reason. I started to think that Mrs. Auld was crazy person and that it would be better to stay with Mr. Auld then to stay with his wife.
I was scared of Mrs. Auld and confused what happened to her being the nicest person I’ve ever met. I did a lot of thinking on this and I came to a conclusion that she probably realized all the power that she had over people. When I met her she was probably new to being a slave owner and that is why she was so nice. So this means that having so much power over people can corrupt you. That’s why every slave owner I've had before was so mean and cruel.
