  • The compromise of 1850
  • Due to conflicts with the South and North, I propose a Compromise of 1850. The South gets the Fugitive Slave Law. The North gets California to be a free state. 
  • South
  • Fugitive Slave Act: (resisting the law) 
  • We are very mad about the Fugitive Slave Act. We are going to resist this act so we organized this community of people. We are going to send you guys to Canada where its safe. 
  • "Uncle Toms Cabinet was an anti-slavery novel. It was published by Harriet Beecher Stowe. It increased abolitionist protest against the Fugitive Slave Act and increased debates.
  • "The Sack of Lawrenvce" There was a town named Lawrence. A proslavery posse of 800 armed men came to Lawernce and burned down the antislavery headquarters. ALso Destroying 2 newspapers, a printing press, and houses and stores. 
  • "The Pottawatomie Massacre" John and his followers pulled 5 men from their beds. They chopped their hands off and stabbed them. 
  • "Bleeding Kansas"  It was a violent battlefield. Many incidents were triggered through out Kansas. About 200 people were killed.
