Ella had a ok life, she had money for her needs but not a lot of wants. Her best friend, Sara, was always talking about the summer race, a race where young girls compete to earn $5,000, and keep on asking Ella to join. Ella was a amazing runner, at least that's what her mom and Sara said, but she does not like the idea of racing in front of a lot of people and having a low chance of winning. No matter what, Sara will not stop bugging her to join the race.

Ella took a yawn tiptoeing to the kitchen for breakfast, but as she got to the corner, she paused to hear her mom on the phone sounding like she was about to cry. "Yes, just give me another week please then i will have the money for it," Ella's mom whispered as tears started coming down her smooth, soft cheeks. As her mom got off the phone, Ella decided to enter the room. He mom slowly puts the phone down. "Who was that?" Ella asked. "The hospital," her mom answered. From that Ella didn't want to ask anything else from seeing tears down her moms face. "Your grandpa is dying," Ella froze. " and i have to get $3,000 for the equipment for him to live."
After Ella's unexpected surprise, she meets Sara at the track the summer race was taking place. Ella knew the only way for her grandpa to live is for her to win the race, and Sara was excited to help. From the information given to her, the race was a half mile long, witch is 1 lap around the track. Ella starts sprinting as Sara sits near the finish line. After dashing and sprinting, Ella goes home tired and sweaty, ready for the race tomorrow.
The next morning, Ella told her mom about the race. "You know you don't have to do this for me," Ella's mom said. Ella answered with a smile,"I know." Ella got to the race as Sara and Ella's mom sat at the 1st row. Ella saw 9 other girls getting ready. Soon a man gets up, and stands near the starting line. "It's time to start, get in ready position. On your mark, get set, go!" the man shouts as the girls start running and sprinting.
As Ella ran and ran, a girl with black long hair was taking the lead. Ella started thinking about her grandpa and how his life depends on her winning. they were one fourth of the way to finishing as a girl starts walking taking last place. Ella started noticing how fun it was racing and how she was about to not try if it wasn't for her grandpa. Ella was bout a foot away from taking first place. She was closed to the finish line as sweat drains down her forehead. Soon, Ella was side by side with the girl. The girl beside her gave her a rude look with her eyebrows squishing down. Just then Ella crossed the finish line taking first place as winner.
The crowd cheers as the man earlier rushed to Ella with a check and a trophy in his hand. "Congratulations!¨ The man shouted. A swarm of people slam into Ella. Sara and Ella´s mom run threw the crowd so proud of Ella. Ella hand the check to her mom for her grandpa. "I´m so proud of you,¨ her mom cried as she gave Ella a big hug. After the race, her mom went to bank to exchange the check for cash and gave it to the hospital, leaving her grandpa in good health. Ella kept the extra money for emergency. You never know something if you don´t try it.
