In chapters 1 it starts in November and we also meet Jonas a boy and the main charter in the book, Jonas lives in a place called "The Community" In chapter 2 we find out that every year 50 babies are born and they don't get named until they are one year old. In chapter 2 we find out that two days in December there are ceremonies and what they do is that if you turn 1 you get a name, and people do not have individual birthdays they all do it in two days in December.
In chapter 3 Jonas's father brings home a baby name is Gabriel. Jonas's sister says that the baby has funny eyes like Jonas. In the chapter Jonas's dad puts his bike away and i think that is the only way they have transportation because at a certain age you get bike from the ceromony.
In chapter 4 Jonas goes and looks for Asher because after school they go do their voulteer hours, and this only about the only part of the day that he can write down facts and other things.
In chapter 5 during breakfast Jonas and his family have yet another ritual and was they do during it is that tell each other about their dreams. Jonas docent know what to say when it is his turn because he docent remember any of his dreams. Jonas members one dream and he was a bathtub and he says it is like the one from the house of old as he says. And then he also says that in the dream that he tells his family to get in the tub.
In chapter 6 is the ceremony for Jonas. His sister Lily is in the sevens group this year and Jonas is in the twelves this year. In the chapter Jonas's parent had to sign a contract to not get to emotional to the baby that his dad found. Lily's ceremony was on the first and Joans's was on the second day but his group was first in the morning.
In chapter 7 is Jonas's ceremony and the kids that are in the twelves group are lined up in order that the number they were given to before they got their names and Jonas was number 19 and his friend Asher was number 4. if you are a higher number like Jonas then you are part of the older group of kids.
