  • We made it to the first stop! New York Harbor.
  • This is where immigrants would get off the boat and head into the Registry Room. This is New York Harbor.
  • Omg! I finally made it! There´s the beautiful Statue of Liberty.
  • Here is a line of immigrants waiting in line to get checked by
  • health inspectors to see if they are health or can be cured.
  • This is called the Registry Room.
  • This is a legal inspection. Each immigrant was asked 29 questions.
  • differed from the answers listed on the manifest.
  • An immigrant could be detained for further inquiry if his or her answers
  • This is where people would stay if they got detained for weeks or months.
  • A lot of people were detained for medical reasons.
  • After the medical and legal inspections the immigrants would go to the top of the stairs of the Great Hall.
  • Officers and social workers would help the immigrants get to where they needed to be in this room.
  • This is called the Stairs of Separation. people who were going west and south and north would all go in different directions.
