  • Scopes Trial- John Scopes, a biology teacher, broke the Tennessee’s Butler Act to test whether it could be enforced.
  • William Jennings Bryan- was an American orator and politician from Nebraska. He emerged as a dominant force in the Democratic Party, standing three times as the party’s nominee for president of United States.
  • What is the problem brought to trial in this court case?
  • John Scopes broke the Tennessee Butler Act, referred to as Scopes’ Monkey Trial which had made it unlawful to teach human evolution in any state-funded school to test if they would enforce the law. hehehe
  • What was the decision of the Scopes Trial? Do you agree with it?
  • Scopes was found guilty and fined $100, but the Tennessee Supreme Court later upheld the constitutionality of the statute but overturned Scopes' conviction on a technicality. The court’s decision is agreeable as they were able to hear out Scope’s accordance for his actions however it’s still a law that he broke which resulted him in getting a fine.
