Storyboard Text

  • YouTube introduced additional methods of advertising in subsequent years, allowing user to earn revenue. However, starting in 2015 advertisers became concerned that their ads appeared alongside offensive content. To appease its advertisers, YouTube announced in 2017 that video content would need to meet site guidelines for making content deemed family or advertiser-friendly. These policies have limited many channels on their content.
  • Introduction
  • Narration
  • YouTube users have recently faced many problems regarding their channel due to YouTube's recent policies. For example, YouTube channels have been forced to make family-friendly content. Things like a single curse word can remove ads from a channel, preventing the channel from making money off that video. Some users have come to discover that their whole channel has been demonetized or taken down. YouTube has also recently been accused of corruption. For instance, the YouTube channel Logan Paul has shown countless disturbing content on its channel such as racism and footage of a suicide victim. These things would've surely taken down any other channel, but this channel makes YouTube lots of money, so they have looked the other way.
  • "Ethical: relating to moral principles that govern a person's behavior or the conducting of an activity." "Unethical: not morally correct."
  • Confirmation-Novel
  • "What is it next time? My army in a cage without guns, with the rest of the battle school against them? How about a little equality?" (Ender, 219)
  • Ender gets fed up about the unfair treatment from his superiors. His superiors say that the is to make him stronger, but his comrades agree that what they are doing is wrong.
  • YouTube should change its unfair policies.
  • Confirmation-Research
  • 6 out of 10 people prefer online video platforms to live TV
  • For years, YouTube has allowed people to be able to connect and share many innovative ideas with others. But many say that this luxury will threatened if YouTube continues to enforce its policies.
  • Concession/Refutation
  • Some might argue that it's YouTube's has an obligation to monitor what their viewers watch.
  • General Anderson and Graff treat Ender differently from others to make him a better soldier. They want to mold him into a great commander so they can defeat the buggers before they can attack humanity first, and they achieve this ultimately by ruining Ender's childhood.
  • Conclusion
  • The defining characteristic of YouTube was that everyone had the power to freely share a variety of content with other users, but for the past few years, YouTube has not been living up to its good name. If YouTube wants to live up to its name and make more money, then it should repeal its unjust policies.
  • By 2025, half of viewers under 32 will not subscribe to a pay-TV service. In an average month, 8 out of 10 18-49 year-olds watch YouTube. If YouTube doesn't become less strict on its content, then this won't be a possibility for YouTube anymore.
  • Also, if YouTube changes it's strict guidelines, then it will not only benefit the users, but also YouTube itself. When YouTube demonetizes channels, they in turn also lose money because they also make loads of money off of those channels.
  • However, a large majority of YouTubers have suffered due to this new policy. Tens of thousands have had their entire channel demonetized.
  • YouTube should take what the majority of people want into consideration. Also, the decision to encourage users to freely upload content will ultimately benefit them in the end as well.
