Abigail want to marry John Proctor and she thinks that if she removed Elizabeth from the situation she will be able to marry John Proctor. So she accuses Elizabeth of being a witch and Elizabeth gets thrown in jail.
After trying to convince the court that Elizabeth is innocent, Proctor gets thrown in jail too. At first he accepted that he was going to die but his wife was able to convince him that he should try and pretend that he was a witch to keep his life.
After confessing to something he didn't do, the church wanted to use his name as a confession that he was a witch. But he decided that wasn't worth keeping his life for.
The church was convinced that he was "of the devil" and he needed to be hung. John Proctor has died, and Elizabeth dies after giving birth, and Abigail has left the colonies to start a new life.
