Our story takes place in the 1800s. It was a cold and rainy night for a family of three living together in a small house. They were sitting around a fire and having their usual conversations. The father of the household had been complaining about the neighborhood that they were living in. They never expected to receive a "gift" that would change their lives forever.
Monkeys Paw/Falling Action
The family of three were expecting a guest to arrive at their house soon after. When the guest had arrived and had introduced himself to the family, the husband started to talk about how he wanted to go to India see all the temples there. That's when their guest, who's name is Sargent Morris hesitantly started to talk about the Monkeys Paw after Mr. started asking him about it and how he got it in the first place. He also told the white family that people before him had made wishes on the paw as well, and that using your three wishes on the paw can result in some bad consequences.
After the White family found out that they could make three wishes on this monkeys paw, they became excited. They were all thinking of what they would wish for. M.White wanted to wish for 200 pounds (in currency) for him and his wife and son. Little did he know that this wish will be costly for him and the rest of the White family, and not in a good way.
After joking about what they were going to wish for, Mr and Mrs. White never expected to get the worst news the ever received. A man from the workplace where their son Herbert worked at came to their house with some sad news. He told them that their son had just died in a machinery accident where he was working. The White's were shock when they heard the terrible news. They did not say anything right away after hearing what happened. That's when the man told them that the company that had employed their son would give them 200 pounds in compensation. They could not believe what the just heard. They were in even more shock after hearing that their first wish had just come true.
Ten Days went by after the burial of their son Herbert. In those ten days they hardly spoke to each other after their sons death. One night when they had gone to bed, Mr.White woke up to the sound of his wife crying by a window. After he told her to come back to bed because it was cold, she told him that Where ever Herbert was, he would be feeling even colder then her.
Later that same night, Mr. White woke up with a start when his wife suddenly started to to Yell about something. He became startled and asked her what was the matter. Mrs. White began yelling even louder about the Monkeys Paw. She than told him that she can use the second wish to wish their son back. He began to think that she had gone mad. But Mrs. White insisted that he go and get the Monkeys paw so they could get Herbert back again. He reluctantly agreed to get it for her. But after getting it he tried to hold his wife back from opening the door after hearing loud knocks at the front door. Mrs. White was beyond hysterical at this point. She thought that her husband was being crazy for not letting her open the door to ''let their son in". Mr White then made on last wish just as his wife was about to open the door. He wishes his son away. The lesson to be learned here is that you should never be to greedy, or else their will be consequences.
