  • On October 29, 1929, later called Black Tuesday, the largest swlling day in the history of the New York Stock Exchange began.Since so many people were selling their stock, and a few were buying, prices plummmeted. That means they droppedd suddenly and steeply.In just two months, the stock market lost 40% of its value.
  • Food
  • In the worst year of the Great Depression, national unemployment reached 25%. In Washington, unemployment varied between 11 and 26.5%. Almost every industry in Washington suffered.
  • Discrimination
  • President Hoover did not have a workable plan to help end the depression. The public blamed  him for not doing enough. Homeless people built housing developnts out of scrap lumber, metal, and cardbord and called them "Hoovervills".
  • 
  • Many Americans, including millionaires, went bankrupt. Although few believed at the time, the country was about tho fall into the worst economic depression in history. An economic depression is a period of time when the economy is suffering from mass unemployment, low business activity, and a weak stock market. Because of people losing money, people couldn't afford to buy food.
  • White side
  • when the  Great depression took place black people migrated from south to north, and the white men were not okay with that. This caused white men and black men to fight. therefor a lot of people died.
  • Black side
  • During the war women got a lot of jobs. During Great Depression, men and woman got fired from there jobs. Before the Great Depression women had a bunch of jobs.
