Our narrator is in the interigation room with the police officers trying to convince them that he does not have an illness just because he murdered an old man that he takes care of. He tells the officer the story of how he kills the old man.
The narrator decides to murder the old man that he takes care of because he does not like his one blind eye.
For seven nights the narrator peers in on the old man as he sleeps at midnight. He slowly creeps into the room only fully putting his head in after a whole hour. He moves the door so slowly it does not make as much as a little creek. He then opens a lantern to see the old mans eye, however each night the old man is sound asleep, and the narrator cannot see the blind eye.
Upon the eighth night when the caretaker crept in on the old man but he made the old man woke up. When the narrator sees the "evil eye" he screams and leaps into the room suffocating the old man with his mattress.
Our caretaker then chops off the old mans limbs in a bathtub and hides the body under the floor boards. Then the narrator gets a knock at the front door from the police. He lets the Police into the house to investigate. Once the officers are done investigating the narrator invites them to stay and talk.
The narrator believes he can hear the old mans heartbeat and becomes too overwhelemed and he confesses to killing the old man.
