- "In the doorway was a massive black head, the nose up and smelling, the tiny eyes bright with hungry anticipation." (Pg.1) It is man vs nature because the bear is looking into the house ready to attack.
- "You're dismissed!" The women said.(p.44) This shows the women was against Lyddie working at the tavern and this is man vs. man because Lyddie was going against the Mistress who wanted to fire her and Lyddie was working there.
- "She was ordered to bed late and rose early..."(pg.24). This was because the mistress didn't want anyone in the tavern knowing that Lyddie was staying there because they didn't need to see a farm girl. This is man vs. society because Lyddie is going against all of the people at the tavern who don't want to see her so she has to sleep in the hallway.
