The Battle of Gonzales was the first battle of the Texas Revolution. It's also called "The Lexington of Texas", because it was similar to the first battle of the American Revolution. The Texans won this battle.

The Convention of 1836 was to write a constitution for the Republic of Texas and to organize a temporary government. 59 delegates, including George Childress, wrote and signed the declaration of independence for Texas from Mexico.
On February 24, 1836, Santa Anna's forces began firing on the Alamo. He had planned a surprise attack. William B. Travis wrote a letter to "plea for help", then Juan Seguin delivered it.

3 weeks after the fall of the Alamo, Santa Anna ordered for the Texas rebels to be executed. It claimed 350 lives of captured soldiers/prisoners. This event outraged the Texans to fight.
A mass evacuation of Anglo-Americans fled from Santa Anna's army, because they were moving east after their victory at the Alamo.

This battle was led by Sam Houston with 800 soldiers. 2 Texans and 630 MX soldiers were killed; &30 MX soldiers were captured, along with Santa Anna. It lasted 18 minutes. Treaties of Velasco officially ended the war and Texas gained independence.
