One major theme of The Monsters are due on maple street is Fear and Suspicion are destructive. On page number (679) Charlie saw a dark figure walking to the town, thinking that it was some kind of monster or something. Out of fear Charlie grabbed the gun, aimed it at the dark figure, and pulled the trigger. Charlie did this because he was scared and fearful of what the monster was going to do to the town. People are then putting pressure on Charlie, not only because he shot someone but because on page (680) Charlie's lights, in his house, turn on. People begin to be suspicious of Charlie and ask him why his lights are on, Charlie feeling scared he then runs and tries to get away but the town people catch up to him and corner him at his house. Charlie being scared and not knowing what to do he tells a lie that the town people believed. This scene in the story supports the theme because the town people are suspicious of charlie and start to turn on him. Lastly on page (668) a blast of screeching sound and illuminating light descending from the sky struck fear and terror into the hearts of the people of Maple Street. This scene supports our theme because the people of maple street started to assume things like it was a meteor or their were aliens disguised as humans on maple street. In conclusion the theme Fear and suspicion are destructive, is a major theme of The Monsters are Due and Maple Street because it has a lot of evidence to support it with.
