  • The old man is very understanding, strong and kind hearted of the boys parents decision, although the boy is not coming the old men hasn’t lost hope.“He hasn’t much faith.” “No,” the old man said. “But we have. Haven’t we?” “Yes,” the boy said”(10,Hemingway )
  • The old man starts to lose his mind because of his loneliness and regrets of not having the boy with him on this journey and wanting to go back. But he didn’t,and he couldn’t, he needed that fish to prove to himself that he was more than what people say.“I shouldn’t have gone out so far, fish,” he said. “Neither for you nor for me. I’m sorry, fish”(105,Hemingway).Aloud he said, “I wish I had the boy”(50,Hemingway ).

  • The  sweet old man was gone for so long that the people in town sent for search parties because they were worried for his safety.  “Did they search for me?, the old man said.” “Of course. With coast guard and with planes. The boy replied”(Hemingway).
  • While the old man was on the boat struggling to keep hold of the marlin and the old men had nothing but himself to keep hold of the fish hurt himself, but kept strong the whole time instead of giving into resists.”But, he thought, I keep them with precision”(32,Hemingway)
  • The old men’s eyes are soft with a wild lifely gaze, that even though he is old and crippled he still has life in him, he still has something to offer in life.”Everything about him was old except his eyes and they were the same color as the sea and were cheerful and undefeated”(Hemingway).
