Columbus discovered the "New Lands" in the year 1492. He was supposed to find a quicker route to India, but he found the New Lands instead. This discovery influenced exploration in North America.

Cortez conquered the Aztecs in in the year 1521. He became the first "governor" in New Spain (Mexico). He inspired others to explore more parts of North America.

La Salle was lost. He was looking for the Mississippi River, but found TX instead. Claimed Texas for 2 years until his crew murdered him. The Spanish panicked, and started to actually settle in Texas.
Coronado was looking for the city of gold, but found that there was no city of gold. He told tales about the "TX Panhandle".
Cabeza de Vaca was looking for gold in FL. He got shipwrecked, so his crew built rafts. They got caught in a hurricane, and crashed into the Texas Gulf. He met the Karankawas, became the 1st surgion, and was the 1st Texas explorer.
Pineda was the first to explore and map the Texas coast in the year 1519. He was supposed to find a route to the Pacific.
