  • During the late 19th and early 20th centuries women fought for suffrage or the right to vote.
  • The NWP protested and were picketing in front of the White House.
  • The efforts of the NAWSA were moderate while those of NWP were radical in nature.
  • Susan B. Antony was a women's rights leader in the late 1800's who founded the National Women's Suffrage Association.
  • Alice Paul was a member of the NAWSA who eventually broke away from the NAWSA and, 1916, formed the National Womens Party.
  • The 19th amendment was adopted on August 18th 1920. It prohibits the states and the federal government from denying the right to vote to citizens of the united states on the basis of sex.
