Storyboard Text

  • At first General Cornwallis sent British troops to attack Charlottesville because the Virginia government was meeting there.
  • After that many officials including Thomas Jefferson had to leave Virginia so that they can escape General Cornwallis.
  • Then Marquis de Lafayette, a French leader commanded American troops to fight back at the British. That caused General Cornwallis to retreat to the Yorktown peninsula.
  • After General Cornwallis retreated Washington and his allies trapped General Cornwallis on the Yorktown peninsula.
  • They had trapped General Cornwallis and he had no escape. They blocked all paths on water and land. Cornwallis was running out of supplies too.
  • Finally after several weeks Cornwallis surrendered to Washington's Continental Army.
