  • The Tariff of Abomination was a time when the government raised tariff prices on imports to compete with British companies inexpensive goods. This benefited the North, but hurt the South.
  • The Panic of 1837 was an economic downfall after Van Buren took office. After Jackson's banking policies and unsucssful plan contrubuted to the inlfation.
