  • Britain blockaded U.S. ports so they could not trade, it damaged their economy.
  • British soldiers forced captured American soldiers to fight for them or get thrown overboard.
  • The British set the white house ablaze Dolly Madison saved a few important papers.
  • Americans fought the British to keep control of the port of New Orleans. Americans defeated 7,000 British soldiers while only losing 21.  It was the best win of the war.
  • Americans had an immense sense of patriotism,  they were seen as a world power, the decline of the Federalist party removed tension in the country.
