Storyboard Text

  • Oh my gosh, Peyton! You really aren't ever going to study at home, are you?
  • Mom, it's just not one of my priorities in life right now.
  • Okay, well can you at least explain to me what your priorities are and why school isn't one of them?
  • Alright, alright. Sit down and let me teach you they ways of the human mind, young one.
  • So, here's a little something I've been learning in psych class. It all starts with Sigmund Freud.
  • This is the guy that came up with a little something called the psychoanalytic theory.
  • Hold on mom, I'm getting to that. This guy has a theory on people's personalities called the psychoanalytic theory.
  • What does this have to do with anything at all?
  • This theory is used to explain why we are the way we are. It says that personality is formed based on conflicts between the id, ego, and superego.
  • Our id is our instinctual thoughts and needs. Our superego is our conscience and how we understand ssocial standards.
  • And our ego mediates between those two, which forms our personality and makes us who we are.
  • So, scientifically, I don't study because of the conflict between these three things in me.
  • So I guess Freud would use that to say you're lazy and witty, huh?
