Everything we use in our daily lives is made up of atoms. Atoms are made up of protons, neutrons, and electrons.
Protons are found in the center and have positive charge. It is one of the heaviest pieces of an atom and the atomic number is the number of protons in the atom.
Neutrons are also found in the center but they do not have an charge. They are the reason protons are held together.
Electrons are the smallest part of an atoms and they have a negative charge. They are found a few feet away and there is the same amount of electrons as there is of protons.
