Jonas is finding his assigned seat in the ceremony of 12's. This is where he will get his first job and only job. This is an important day for Jonas because the job he gets is the job he has for life.
Jonas and everyone in the crowd are confused why Jonas was skipped. Jonas starts to worry that he might not get a job and be sent to nowhere. He and the others were worried because the community of elders never made a mistake, and Jonas was worried that his skip was not a mistake. Piar was confused and hesitant to go up to the stage after his name was called over Jonas's. He was also sure for a second that their must of been a mistake.

Only one of us here today has undergone the rigorous training required of a Receiver......
Jonas was told that he could see into the beyond and he didn't believe it. It wasn't until he looked at the audience and they changed that he would realize that he might be able to. He told the Chief Elder......
"I think it's true, but I don't understand it yet. I don't know what it is, but sometimes I see something which may be beyond".
