The Triangle Waist Factory was owned by Isaac Harris and Max Blanck. Like a lot of work places at the time was not the cleanest or best place to work.
They worked girls at any age from 12-30, and locked them in so they could not avoid the horrible work conditions.
One day while the ladies were working the fabric caught on fire and ended up bursting the whole building into flames!
The young women resorted to jumping, so they did not have to burn alive in the locked rooms.
The firefighters and by passers yelled at them not to jump but that was their only way out.
Once they got the fire under control they saw the true damage...146 teenage girls lost their lives in this tragedy. Shortly after this happened they made child labor laws to restrict certain things so horrible accidents like this could be avoided.
