  • The Trail of Tears
  • In 1828 Andrew Jackson took part in the election. 
  • When gold was discovered on Cherokee land the Indians knew they were in trouble. Around 4,000 white people came to find gold.
  • The Indian Removal Act was passed in 1829. Later Jackson was still removing Indians when he was not allowed to. Even after Jackson removing Indians, Georgia citizens were forcing them off their land. 
  • On May 26th soldiers started rounding up men, women, and kids. Some people were forced into jails on the trail. They marched around 200 miles and some camps that they passed held 4,000 Indians. 
  • Diseases occured on the trail because the Indians had no medicine. Around 2,000 Cherokees died on the Trail of Tears. In March 1839 the last detachment of Indians arrived
