Times of famine led to the desperation of turtle trying to get food. On the way he changed his name, he had a plan of his own to get what he wants
When they are told the feast is "for all of you" the turtle eats all the food only leaving some for the birds. While leaving with anger they took their feathers with them leaving the turtle no way to go back home
