Welcome to Mesopotamia, which is now modern country Iraq, Asia! My name is Shala. I live next to the Euphrates river and the Tigris. Its tough living here but we manage.
There was a lot of fighting and the most thing we fought about is: water. We had to find a way to protect ourselves, and there were no mountains or anything, so we had no protection! Next, we baked mud bricks that were mad on hot days, and also made moats outside our walls and stuff
We lived on the rolling foothills now known as Zagros. We had mild weather and a lot of rain that was good for our crops. our population was increasing faster and faster and we didn't have enough food for everyone. We had a few people who lived near the river down below, and the land was hard and dry most of the year. We grew tired of the place so we moved to the plains and we called it Sumer.
Ah, Sumer... It brings back memory's. Our biggest struggle was the uncontrollable water supply. In the winter snow would pile up, and when it was summer again the water came rushing and flooding. It was horrible! But we figured out a solution, and we made levees to solve our problems! But for pretty much the rest of the year it was hot and dry.
Our canals were constantly filled with silt and needed care and repair. it was crazy! But our people understood that we needed to work together to achieve our goals.
So there you have it. Almost 2000 years of our work. But our inventions helped people in the future for war and all kinds of stuff. And i hope now it helps farther in the future.
