Storyboard Text

  • Martha had told Mary to go play outside. She decided to go to the gardens, and she met a man named Ben Witherstaff and a little robin, but she found a garden wall that wouldn't budge.
  • BUT-
  • Mary heard the cries again. She kept walking through the hallway. She was determined to find the source of the cries. And it got closer each step. But the governess Ms. Medlock saw her wandering, and led her back to her room.
  • You mus'nt ever wander through the corridors again! Go to your room this instant!
  • Everyone has been noticing Mary's change in behavior. She seemed brighter, and even looked a little pretty.
  • Is it really here, Robin?
  • Then, the robin lead Mary to the locked garden. The robin lead to the buried key and when Mary opened the door.. magic happened. She called it; "The Secret Garden".
  • Mary enjoyed going through the garden, and trying to make the plants breathe. She went everyday, and even tried to use the new jumping rope she had that was given to her by Martha's mother.
  • Just recently, she had sent Martha's brother Dickon shillings to buy gardening tools.
  • She soon saw Dickon and felt shy, but he was quite nice to Mary. She knew she had to tell him about The Secret Garden after he asked what the tools were for when he took them out, and Dickon taught Mary techniques, such as founding out when a tree is "wick".
  • Finally, after such a long time, her uncle came. He said, "Is there anything you want?" "Do you want toys, books, dolls?" Mary responded:
  • Might I-
  • have a bit of earth?
  • And he said, "A bit of earth." "You can have as much as earth as you want. You remind me of someone else who loved the earth and things that grow. When you see a bit of earth you want, take it child, and make it come alive."
