Classical Conditioning Comic Pt. 1

Storyboard Text

  • 'Sup Rick!
  • Hehehehe
  • DAY 1
  • Uptown Girl, she's been living in her uptown world
  • Richard's brother Jason always walks into his room randomly. This always annoyed Richard.
  • I bet she's never had a backstreet guy. I bet her momma never told her why
  • Richard, finally done with Jason's antics, decided to do something about it. He decided that he will classically condition his brother so he will never come into his room again.
  • Dude what was that for?
  • I'm gonna try for an uptown girl.
  • Hehe
  • The next time Jason came into his room unannounced, he played the song "Uptown Girl" by: Billy Joel on his speaker. In classical conditioning, the song would be a neutral stimulus. Humans aren't wired to have a natural response to this stimulus.
  • DAY 2
  • Woah - oh - oh - oh
  • Along with the music, Rick also sprayed water at Jason. The water would be an unconditioned stimulus. The reaction would be an unconditioned response that humans would naturally respond to. In this case, Jason would be naturally surprised and turn away from the spray of water coming at him.
  • At this point of classical conditioning - with the pairing of "Uptown Girl" and the water - Jason would turn away from the spray of water, not from the song. But, soon he will turn away from the song and the water. (Hehehehe)
  • Over the next few days. Whenever Jason came into Rick's room, he would play the song first and then spray the water at him.
