Rainsford was looking over into the sea and jumps off. Ex. 20 ft below him the sea rumbled and hissed. Rainsford hessitated. He heard the hounds. Then he leaped far out into the sea.
Zaroff found a man hiding in the curtains of his bed. He found out it was Rainsford. Ex. "Rainsford!" screamed the general. "How in God's name did you get here?" "I swam," said Rainsford. "I found it quicker then walking in the jungle."
Zaroff found Rainsford in his bed and congratulated him. Ex. The general sucked in his breath and smiled. "I congratulate you," he said. "You have won the game." Rainsford did not smile. "I am still a beast at bay," he said in a low, hoarse voice.
Rainsford told Zaroff that he is still a beast at bay as he said it angrily. Ex. "Get ready general Zaroff." The general made one of his deepest bows. "I see," he said.
