After moving to Australia to follow her husband to the gold mines, Eliza has found it quite difficult to support herself and her children, with her husband not supporting them at all
Eliza tried to speak to her husband John, but John was irritable and angry from not finding any gold at the gold mines in the past week and could not help Eliza.
On her walk home, Eliza thought hard and deep about what ways she could start earning money to support her family. She has seen some of the other women in town begin to open up stores and pop up stalls to support the miners.
Mama, Mama! That's how we fix this! We open up a family store to sell supplies for the town and miners!
As Eliza and her family reached the town and began walking through, her daughter pointed out a building for rent.
After taking a moment to think about her daughter's suggestion, Eliza realised that this could be the key to progress for her family. She knew she had enough money currently to be able to pay the first fees, and using her husband's name she could take out a loan to begin buying items to sell.
After talking to the building owner, it is official. Eliza and her family are now in charge of a small supplies store which will allow her to support her family financially. Lucky for Eliza today was one of the best days of her life.
