Reverand Hale telling Putnam not to leap to witchcraft(Act 1)
Look at Betty!! THIS IS WITCHCRAFT
The mark of the devil is clear, But we must not push the idea of witchcraft
Abby uses Tituba as a scapegoat (Act 1)
NO IT WAS TITUBA!!! SHE MADE ME
Abby did you conjure the Devil?
39 jailed not 14 (Act 2)
How many have been hanged? 14?
No its 39 and Goody Osborne will hang!
Reverand Hale Telling Putnam not to leap to Witchcraft. This is dangerous because his is basing this judgement on his religous beliefs and not facts and overriding objective fact. At the time they genuninly believed that the Devil was in Salem which fueled the religous rooted witch hunt.
Many have "Confessed" (Act 2)
In act 1. Reverand Hale questions Abby if she conjured the Devil. When Abby lied and blamed TItuba. This further fueled the fire in Salem and caused the first round of accusations and casued Reverand Hale to Call in Judge Danforth thus sealing the towns fate. Salems Christian ideology caused mulitple deaths and Abbys lies made them believe Witches are a foot.
THIS IS AN ATTACK ON THE COURT (Act 3)
How is it such?
THIS IS AN ATTACK ON THIS COURT
By this point the idea of witches had consumed the town and that dangerous ideology has also got 39 people arrested and some number killed. The Christian ideology that caused all of the witch hysteria has taken the town and got a number killed.
The Village must have proof (Act 4)
The Village must have proof
GOD HAS PROOF AND THAT'S ENOUGH
Just as Reverand Hale is about to leave John speaks up about Abby and this shakes Hale who says that many have confessed and John declares that they did that to save themselves. This shakes Hales idelogy and made Hale relize the problem that he perceved and overlooked and shows the puritans and how they aren't capable of auestioning their own authority and that overturns logic.
YES! TO SAVE THEMSELVES
But john many have confessed
Parris declares Hales questioning of the courts authority a attack on the court. Reverand Hale notices the courts ideological blindness and questions why any doubts of the validity of the court and of Danforth and Abigail are attacks.
If God knows all then why does Danforth need a signed confession? This shows how flawed the Puritian Mentality is and how the town needs to be validated about witches in Salem. This event and Proctors subsequent execution show the depth of the character and how far logic has gone from Salem and how far in Radical Christian Ideology has come in.
