The Monsters are Due on Maple Street
Character : Charlie
"You sound real anxious to have that happen Steve, I think we better keep our eye on you too!"
"Trust. Takes years to build, seconds to break, and forever to repair." -Freeda Gilbert
Conflict : Everyone is mistrusting each other
When the power goes out and everyone has different opinions they mistrust each other in a very fearful situation. "It isn't Bob Weaver's house, it's Don Martin's place!"
The setting helped reveal the theme because it was a perfect place where everyone was happy then the "aliens" came and turned off the power so it was hard to trust each other.
Charlie was the one who started accusing everyone and mistrusting everybody because he was scared and anxious.
"It's Tommy. He's the one!"
"How could he know?" "Who told him?" "Make the kid answer!" "I tell you it's the kid!"
The conflict revealed the theme because without it there wouldn't be fighting and people not trusting each other any more. The conflict shows how easily you can lose trust.
A weird object comes to Maple Street destroying everyone's trust with each other. I believe that the conflict revealed the theme the best. I think this because it shows how everybody blames each other, which is how people mistrust each other. The conflict reveals how trust is very important and fragile in fearful times but it was lost.
