  • My name is Miss. Watermelondrea  Todays Topic= Proportions
  • Zzzzzzzzzzzz
  • A proportion is two equal ratios. ex: 3/4=27/36 Step 1: Cross multiply 3/4=27/36= 3*36 and 4*27 you simply multiply the reds together and then the blues together as shown.
  • Zzzzzzzzzzzz
  • Next after you cross multiply, you will compare the answers to see if they are equal.  3*36=108 4*27=108 THEY'RE EQUAL
  • Zzzzzzzzzzzz
  • That makes them proportional! Word example: Lets say that Karen loves to bake cookies. She bakes 42 cookies in 30 minutes. How many cookies can Karen bake in 1 hour and a half?
  • Zzzzzzzzzzzz
  • but how is this helpful in the real world?
  • First set up the proportion. cookies;minutes 42/30 = x/90-  42x= 30*90 Next solve for x by doing 30*90, which equals 3,780. Next you do 3,780 divided by 42 to get x.  X=126
  • but...but... I still dont get it
  • Zzzzzzzzzzzz
  • Ok Kevin. On to example 2: Lets say that Baby Kev earns money if he behaves himself. If Kev earned $5.50 in 7 days, how much money would he earn in 30 days?
