Storyboard Text

  • This document will be our first constitution! We will limit our own federal power.
  • The states are not paying their taxes, and I can't do anything to enforce it.
  • The central government needs to hold more power!
  • The Articles of Confederation was a document that was what America was based on before the Constitution was created. This document was America’s first constitution, or government. Under the Articles, the individual states held more power than the federal government.
  • The most significant weakness with the Articles of Confederation was that the federal government held little to no power and the individual state governments held all the power. This was a problem because the country was disunited and unbalanced.
  • The purpose of the Constitutional Convention of 1787 in Philadelphia was to change the Articles of Confederation due to its weakness. They decided that the they should have more federal power, rather than individual state power.
