Storyboard Text

  • At the beginning of the poem a highway man goes to an Inn to see a land lords daughter.  
  • Rhyme- " He whistled a tune to the window, and who shall be waiting there. But the landlord's black-eyed daughter, Bess the landlords daughter, Plaiting a dark red love knot into her long black hair.  
  • The highway man was talking to bess about the there love and how they were going to run away. 
  • Repetition- "Watch for me  by moonlight, watch for me by moonlight "
  • The highway man left to go get gold before bess and him leave 
  • Metaphor- "But I shall be back with the yellow gold before the morning light"
  • It creates rhythm when you are reading the passage 
  • The red coat tie up bess and put a gun to her and she kills herself so the highway man know not to come back to get her.
  •   "They stretched and strained in the darkness, and the hours crowed by like yearsa. Simile
  • This makes it sound like alliteration because it keeps on saying words with the same letter. 
  • The highway man hears that bess killed herself so he comes back for revenge but he gets shot 
  • Personification- "Blood red were his spurs in the golden noon; wine-red was his velvet coat; When they shot him down on the highway,          Down like a dog on the highway"
  • It describes metaphor because it describing gold as yellow with out like or as.
  • The highway man gets killed and as a ghost he and the landlords daughter love each other as ghost.  
  • This shows that they are torturing her and no letting her go.
  • This describes how he is lying there dead like a dog because dogs lie down but he is dead.
  • This describes repetition because it says daughter  over and over.
  • Repetition- "But the landlord’s black-eyed daughter, Bess, the landlord’s daughter'.
